Respect means different things to different people – it’s important to identify what respect means to you, and to know how you want to be treated in your relationships.

 

Respect might mean:

  • Feeling safe, and making sure the people around you feel safe
  • Making your own choices
  • Enjoying being together and apart
  • Being free and confident to always be yourself
  • Knowing that you can say what you are feeling and thinking, without worrying that you will get in trouble
  • Being able to make mistakes
  • Listening and being heard
  • Working out arguments by talking and finding solutions everyone is happy with
  • Being able to say no, or to change your mind – even if you have already said yes
  • Being able to disagree and have your own opinion
  • Having honesty and trust in your relationship
